Sculptured for the Sussex Business Show
Sculpting is an art form, being able to creatively craft a new perspective…
The Sussex Business Show is always looking to stand out from its competitors with a new perspective. To do trade shows differently. Giving a twist to the norm.
A chance meeting at the recent launch at Terra at Tottington Manor Hotel & Restaurant brought together the founder of Sussex Business Show, Sonny Cutting, and Simon Shepherd – artist and sculptor creator.
A Sculptor of Meaning
Simon, originally from London, is a Brighton-based artist and his sculptures explore the distinctions between the known and the unknown through the combination of relatable objects to create new meanings and narratives. A scroll through his Instagram stops you in your tracks as you try to piece together what you know and what faces you on your screen.
Sonny’s creativity sparked as they talked and swirled with musings of having a sculpture at the September Sussex Business Show, to be auctioned off on the day to raise vital funds for the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.
Making Meaning for Rockinghorse
The charity is close to Sonny’s heart, and the Sussex Business Show has for a number of years supported their life changing work helping babies, children and young people across Sussex. Every opportunity to fund raise and help them make a difference was worth going for..
But the question was, would Simon be keen to support them too?
The answer was a resounding yes! Which led to smiles all round. As Sonny puts it, you never know what you’ll get by way of a partnership, unless you ask.
It really is a small world where the power of connection pulls through. Simon’s partner, Penina Shepherd has been a valued keynote speaker in the past for the show and is even an investor in the entrepreneurial arm of the show – The Tiger’s Pen – which is also happening later this year at the Sussex Business Show.
Simon agreed to re-work one of his art pieces, turning it into a casino concept idea with a bubble heart ready to auction off to raise funds for the Rockinghorse Children’s Charity.
We’re excited to see what he does with his creative vortex of imagination. The only way to see is to join us at the show at Brighton Dome on September 26th – and place your bid to be in with a chance of bringing it home!
In the meantime, let us know what pieces have captured your attention on Simon’s Instagram – @simonshepherdart.
